About Kanyakumari
The literal translation of the word “Kanyakumari” is “young woman”. Princess Kanya Devi, one of the varied kinds of Parvati, was to marry Lord Shiva. But because of his inability to point out up at the auspicious time. And the marriage never happened, therefore the name “Kanyakumari”.
Kanyakumari lies at India’s southmost tip. It is at the confluence of the Indian Ocean, the Bay of Bengal, and the Arabian Sea. The Vivekananda Memorial is built on a massive rock just beyond the land’s point.
Vivekananda Memorial is one of the best tourist places in Kanyakumari. And was the meditation center of Vivekananda, one of the simplest persons in India. Many Hindu pilgrims visit this site.
Also called Cape Comorin, the place has several places that capture the tourist’s attention.
How to Reach Kanyakumari?

By Air: Kanyakumari doesn’t have an airport. Thiruvananthapuram International Airport is 90 km away from Kanyakumari in Kerala. And is the closest airport. The airport receives all-important airlines from numerous parts of India and abroad.
By Road: Buses from all major cities of South India like Trivandrum, Chennai, Madurai, Nagarcoil, and Bangalore ply to Kanyakumari. In fact, You can choose between AC or non-AC coaches if you rely on budget.
NOTE: If you are a bike rider, be prepared to protect your gears and check the weather forecast before heading out. Carry eatables just in case you don’t find a suitable restaurant.
By Rail: Kanyakumari Junction railway station is nearly 4 km distant from the foremost bus stand. The Kanyakumari is connected to major Indian cities through the railway. You can hire taxis and buses outside the station to travel anywhere in Kanyakumari.
Best Time to Visit Kanyakumari
Although being an evergreen place, it always looks awesome, but sometimes are better avoided due to the crowd and other weather conditions.
Summer (March-May): Escape the crowd and get the best deal from hotels in summer.
Monsoon (June-September): I would recommend you to avoid the monsoon because you may have to cancel your plans anytime during this season.
Winter (October-February): The Best Time to Visit Kanyakumari is winter. There will be a cool temperature. And you will get the best out of the Kanyakumari. But the crowd is common during this time.
NOTE: Pre-book your hotel and tickets. Plan before you go as winter is the most popular time.
Best Tourist Places in Kanyakumari
#1 Vattakottai (Circular Fort)
Situated 6 km from Kanyakumari. The fort provides a superb view of the ocean and should be an ideal place for bathing.
#2 Suchindram
Another tourist place in the Kanyakumari district is 13 km away from Kanyakumari. The place is home to the Thanumalayan temple. A storehouse of art treasures, belonging to different periods and kingdoms. Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. And the presiding deity of the temple is Shiva Lingam. The temple is additionally famous for its enormous statue of the monkey god Hanuman and musical pillars.
#3 Udayagiri Fort
Situated 34km from Kanyakumari, the fort was built by King Marthanda Varma (1729-1758AD). The tomb of the king’s trusted European general De Lennoy’ is present in the fort.
#4 Thanumalayan temple
The Thanumalayan temple is known for its huge statue. Status is of the monkey god Hanuman. And is also popular for its musical pillars. It is 13 km away from the center of the city. And the presiding deity of the shrine is Shiva
#5 Padmanabhapuram Palace
It is the magnificent wooden palace of the Travancore maharajas.
#6 Courtallam Falls
Perched at an altitude of 167 m. Courtallam Falls according to the beliefs of people possesses herbal properties. And this Fall is among the top tourist places in Kanyakumari.
